The Board of Cosmetologists issued proposed rules in the Maryland Register that may have a meaningful economic impact on small businesses by allowing licensed professionals to provide a new service, resulting in additional revenue. The proposed rules add the following definition under the Esthetician License category:
Cosmetic microneedling: The use of cosmetic, non-medical devices that pierce the skin with needles no longer than 0.5 mm.
The proposed rule would allow estheticians to perform cosmetology microneedling. The rule also adds a chemical peel citation. The proposed language, which would allow for using acids comprised of a concentration greater than 20 percent with a pH value of less than or equal to 3.0, or unbuffered, will have a formal hearing.
Speak up, have your say, and help shape your industry by submitting comments in support of, or in opposition to, the proposed rule. Email barber.cos@maryland.gov before April 21.
