You might not know that Associated Skin Care Professionals (ASCP) actually began accepting skin care members years before it was its own association. Members at that time joined our sister association, Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP), to enjoy the benefits of membership, including liability insurance. In 2007, we formally announced that ASCP was a stand-alone association just for estheticians. Since then, we’ve come a long way!
Today, we are the largest association in the country for skin care professionals, and, as we have grown and matured as an association, we understand that we are considered by many to be the resource for all things skin care. This includes gathering information and data on skin care graduation rates to track the growth of our industry, as well as keeping up on the number of skin care programs being offered across the country.
This spring, ASCP completed its first Graduation Survey. Our team members contacted 1,008 skin care programs and successfully reached 743 schools—a response rate of 73%! We were very pleased with the results. To our knowledge, ASCP is the only organization to have such up-to-date information on the number of skin care programs and their graduates.
Did you know that the largest reported number of graduates for a single school was 322 students? And that 202 schools each graduated more than 40 estheticians in 2017?
If you would like more information from the ASCP 2017 Graduation Survey, you can download the summary here. ASCP plans to conduct this survey biennially, with the next survey scheduled for January 2020. We encourage all schools to participate in the next survey so we can more fully reflect the full universe of skin care programs!
