From Tech to Touch

The skin care industry, which was valued at approximately $190 billion globally in 2024, is undergoing significant changes due to the integration of artificial intelligence (AI).1 The days of a “one-size-fits all” approach to skin care are over, and as the beauty industry evolves to accommodate the demands of today’s knowledgeable consumers, so do the options available on the market. Today’s consumers are looking for more tailored solutions, a trend that has sparked a growing demand for hyperpersonalization across industries.

This shift is driven by a combination of factors: Consumers are more knowledgeable than ever, with Gen Z and millennial consumers prioritizing unique, customized experiences across all industries; tech advancements in AI and augmented
reality (AR) are empowering estheticians, and a crowded marketplace pushes professionals to differentiate themselves; and well-informed clients who want unique, data-backed solutions gravitate toward customized products and treatments formulated with their lifestyle and genetics in mind, and they’re willing to invest in professionals who can deliver.

WHERE IS THE DEMAND COMING FROM?

The demand for hyper-personalized skin care mainly comes from today’s more discerning clientele. The digital generation has grown up with access to more skin care information than previous generations, making it overly aware of specific skin needs, like sensitivity, acne, hyperpigmentation, and premature signs of aging. Studies have shown that skin conditions are highly influenced by genetics, environment, and lifestyle, so consumers are seeking estheticians who can provide
alternatives to cookie-cutter facials.

Estheticians who can offer individualized treatments will meet client demand and set themselves apart from the competition. With AI developing at lightning speed and as more studies are conducted, more information goes into product and
treatment development, leading to a better understanding of clients’ skin.
