West Virginia Weighing Cost of Higher Licensing Fees

The West Virginia Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists (Board) issued proposed rules that impact professional and business licensing fees.

  • First issuance or license fee: $45 (currently $35)
  • License reciprocity fee: $45 (currently $35)
  • License renewal late fee: $45 (currently $35)
     
  • Booth or chair rental registration fee: $20 (currently $15)
  • Booth or chair rental annual renewal fee: $20 (currently $15)
  • Booth or chair rental renewal late fee: $20 (currently $15)
     
  • Cosmetology, barber, nail technology, or aesthetic salon initial license fee: $55 (currently $40)
  • Cosmetology, barber, nail technology, or aesthetic salon annual renewal fee: $55 (currently $40)
  • Salon license late renewal fee: $55 (currently $40)
     
  • Waxing specialist initial certification fee: $45 (currently $35)
  • Waxing specialist annual certification renewal fee: $45 (currently $35)
  • Waxing specialist late certification renewal fee: $45 (currently $35)

The proposed rules remove the following fees:

  • Continuing education (CE) annual certificate fee for approved CE providers
  • Online sanitation and law continuing education fee for licensees who take the Board’s online CE course in these subjects
  • Shampoo assistant initial permit, annual renewal, and late renewal fees
