Washington bill may expedite licensure for estheticians

Businesses and professions licensed by Washington’s Department of Licensing—including licensed estheticians—no longer need to follow industry-specific guidance documents developed by the governor’s office. Read on to review the new guidance estheticians should follow issued by the Washington State Department of Labor & Industries.
The Washington PLSS Inspections Unit is introducing a virtual inspection process for all businesses licensed under the cosmetology program. This includes businesses that provide cosmetology, hair design, barbering, esthetics, master esthetics, or manicuring services.
There are two vacancies on the Washington Cosmetology, Hair Design, Barber, Manicurist, Esthetician, and Master Esthetician Advisory Board. If you are interested in serving a three-year term on the Advisory Board, complete an application form before the March 8, 2021, deadline.
There is currently one vacancy on the Washington Cosmetology, Barbering, Esthetics, Manicuring and Hair Design Advisory Board. The vacant seat is for an esthetician. Applicants must be currently practicing licensees who have been engaged in the practice of esthetics for at least three years.
RE: Updates to guidelines require facial coverings for both client and service providers at all times.
The Washington Department of Licensing (DOL) (https://www.dol.wa.gov/) is proposing to increase cosmetology and other personal services fees. If the proposed revisions are adopted, the fee increases will be effective November 2020.
RE: Increasing online course instruction for cosmetology, barber, manicurist, and esthetician programs, and reopening cosmetology testing centers.
Board Applications
The Washington Board of Massage is accepting applications for a professional member. Applications are due by August 14, 2020. They are seeking candidates with a diverse background and those who represent various regions of the state. Requirements are as follows:
