Board Applications
The Washington Board of Massage is accepting applications for a professional member. Applications are due by August 14, 2020. They are seeking candidates with a diverse background and those who represent various regions of the state. Requirements are as follows:
Governor Newsom announced on July 13, 2020, that counties that have remained on the County Monitoring List for three consecutive days must close indoor businesses, which includes those offering personal care services as of July 13, 2020, “unless they can be modified to operate outside or by pick-up.” It has been interpreted that working outside is working outside of your establishment, so if you are required to have an establishment license, you are most likely not allowed to work outside.
Online continuing education is now accepted for the renewal period ending August 31, 2020.
RE: New guidance strongly encourages biweekly COVID-19 testing in Phase 3 regions.
An updated Interim Guidance for Personal Care Services During the COVID-19 Public Health Emergency document released July 1, 2020, includes a requirement that employees be tested for COVID-19 every two weeks for regions in Phase 3. This includes sole practitioners.

The South Dakota Board of Massage Therapy is considering amendments to the state’s massage therapy rules. The largest change affects the licensing fee schedule (see below for more information). On June 15, 2020, Governor Jared Polis released Safer at Home: New Guidelines (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1U0vrv7GEOp_vGGkxlDqjJCJdRVmQxx8d/view), which, among other allowed activities, expands permitted personal care services. Facials, shaves, beard trimming, and lip waxing services are allowed effective June 18, 2020. Clients may remove their face coverings for these services.
